TAKING SPRING FOR A RIDE

it all started in the family basement
where derelicts go to cut souls in half
nobody was left with a leg to breathe on
suffering was laid out on the rickety card table
that had been sleeping with the boxes of Christmas ornaments
muscles were buffed until there was smoke floating near the ceiling
mountain goats had the gospels tattooed to their bellies
tt always leads to a genius solution for school holidays
praying between the blossoms that buried up to my tongue
someone had tried begging but it all got salted away
no one confessed to cooking the books this time around
the Pasadena dreamscape was renamed to match the social confusion
lovers were left to mumble in a D. H. Lawrence moment
I pretend you pretend they are them and pretend is the new smoking
someone changed the local font and figured that science would save the puppets
spring caresses only brought sadness and an ounce of slavery
my mattress got tossed onto the bonfire of the gods
solutions got thrown into the backseat along with all the empties
